Art Critic

TO FORM THE LINK

Bertrand NAIVIN - Art critic

Traced in black stone on a painted background, faces look at us. They are those of Pablo, Frida, Owen or Enhtuya, artists or strangers crossed by Frédérique Samama at random. Drawing their features on the canvas becomes for the painter the way to "immerse herself in the folds and folds of their being". A communion that makes her free from the anecdote and focus only on their eyes, their mouths, their hands, these parts of the body with which we enter into contact with the other by a look, by a word, or by a handshake. As for the background, it is painted and reveals "fragments where the story" of their lives is reflected. A combination of fragility and strength, of wisdom and doubt, which makes these strangers alter egos to whom we can entrust our joys and sorrows, our certainties and doubts.

Through her paintings, Frédérique Samama draws the portrait of our humanity and gives shape to the formlessness of our lives, thus realizing the greatest of artworks: the link with the Other.
